The Worst Mass Killing in U.S. History, June 12, 2016!

On Sunday, June 12, 2016, the worst mass shooting in U.S. history happened in Orlando, Florida at a well known gay club, Pulse Orlando. A lone gunman with an assault rifle shot and killed 50 people and wounded 53 people around 2:02 AM. For a time, it was thought there may have been hostages involved temporarily delaying the SWAT team at the scene.

The gunman, Omar Mateen, a U.S. citizen of Afghan descent, was killed. He called 911 with a pledge of allegiance to ISIS, however, his father, Mir Seddique, said that this attack had nothing to do with religion. The father also said that his son may have had anti-gay sentiments. The shooter's apartment is being searched for any clues to the motive for the shooting. 

President Obama made a brief comment calling this mass shooting a terrorist attack and ISIS has claimed responsibility for this attack.
